Apple Glazed Pork Chops

· In: Dinner

Apple Glazed Pork Chops is a perfect combination of savory and sweet with a pinch of tart and spicy. A fall favorite recipe!

Fall is in the air! Maybe its just the hurricane that’s coming but, it is definitely cooler outside as of yesterday. I hope that all of our friends and family down near Myrtle Beach stay safe during this storm and it would be great if Miss Florence decided to stay out at sea. I have ridden out a few hurricanes and let me just say that I don’t have very fond memories of them.

The list of apple recipes that I want to make this fall is getting longer and longer 🙂 I made a small dent in that list with this recipe for fried apples and pork chops. Omg, this was so easy to make and it is the perfect combination of savory and sweet + tart and spicy.

Speaking of spicy… I have been experimenting with spices and food lately and my mind has been blown with how differently(and better) foods taste by combining certain spices together or using ones that I haven’t tried before. To make a long story short, seasoning your food makes a Huge difference and I’m not talking about just salt and pepper here 🙂  I used a combination of garlic powder, dry mustard, thyme, s & p, and chili powder as a dry rub for the pork chops here and cinnamon with the apples. Normally, I would just shake salt & pepper on those bad boys and throw them in the pan but, never ever again! I am a changed woman 😉

Apple Glazed Pork Chops are super easy to make and can be done in less than one hour with basically two steps – cook the chops first, and then the apples. Add the chops back into the skillet with the apples, heat through and check the temperature! That seems more like four steps but, you know what I mean! And I love these recipes that don’t require multiple pots, pans and bowls.

Happy Tuesday!

Ingredients

  • 2 thick bone-in pork chops
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp thyme
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 3 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  • Mix chili powder, garlic powder, s & p, thyme, and dry mustard and rub into pork chops.
  • In 12-inch cast iron skillet melt butter over medium heat. Add pork chops and cook 8-10 minutes on each side. Remove from pan.
  • Slice apples and remove cores. Toss apples with the sugar, vinegar, water, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Add apples to the same skillet that the pork chops were cooked in. Cook on medium heat for around 10 mins. or until desired doneness is reached. I like to leave them slightly firm.
  • To make the sauce whisk together the heavy cream and cornstarch. Pour into the apple mixture and stir in. If the sauce seems too thick add in a tablespoon or two of water. Taste and season as needed.
  • Add the pork chops back into the pan and cook until a thermometer inserted into the middle reads 145 F. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 3 minutes and serve.

An excellent recipe! I served it for my family including two teenage boys and it was a hit. I’ll definitely make this again! I served with roasted sweet potato medallions and sauteed brown butter green beans.

What a great recipe to stumble upon. I’ve used a different pork chops with apples recipe for years and wanted to try something new. My family, including two teenage boys, now has a new favorite. I served with roasted sweet potato medallions and sauteed brown butter green beans.
