Golden Milk Iced Latte

Who else has jumped on the Golden Milk Iced Latte train? I would love to know!

I’ll admit that at first, I was very skeptical about this golden milk drink but because turmeric is one of those superfoods that can pretty much cure all that ails you I decided to try it 😉  The taste was definitely acquired over time for me but I was the same about coffee and then I became seriously addicted to that 😅.

I started mixing this drink by adding a dry spice mix to milk and the taste was very bitter even after sweetening with maple syrup or sugar. So, that’s when I decided to make a golden milk “syrup”. It isn’t like a typical simple or flavored syrup because I didn’t want to add that much sugar. After mixing the spices with water plus a sweetener and heating on a low setting the turmeric loses a lot of the bitterness and the heat will increase some of the health benefits also. I really love having this in the fridge so that I can make an iced latte on the run!

You are not limited to only latte. Heat, steam, or froth your milk and pour over the syrup mix. Add a sprinkle of nutmeg and it! I haven’t learned to love the hot latte but, I’m sure that I will.

I know that the photo above is technically “bad” as far as lighting goes but I love it for some reason. 😊This takes no time to mix up and heat! I store it in the fridge in a container that I can easily pour from and it lasts at least a week! That is for one person. If you have more people then you may need to make a double batch or more… and please taste test! Being one of those people that can drink black coffee and prefers my tea unsweet means that I am not always the best judge on how much sugar to add to any drink! Less is more in my opinion but, my opinion may not always be the popular one 😉

I’m no expert on the health benefits of turmeric but, I do know that the main active ingredient is curcumin and that it is considered to be an anti-inflammatory which is very beneficial in the prevention of diseases. We could all use a little help in that area. 😺

  • 4 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp ginger
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, I use coconut or whole milk
  • 1/4 cup golden milk mix

Instructions

  • Golden Milk Mix:
Mix first seven ingredients in a saucepan. Heat for 5-8 minutes on low heat-being careful not to boil! Allow to cool and refrigerate in a covered container for up to 1 week.
  • Latte:
Measure 1 1/2 cups of milk into a cocktail shaker or glass. Add 1/4 cup of golden milk mixture and shake well or stir if using a glass. Taste test to adjust sweetener-you may need more maple syrup or sugar.
Fill a glass with ice and pour the milk mix over, sprinkle with additional nutmeg or cinnamon. Enjoy! Stir often as the spices will settle pretty quickly.
